About the data

All counts on this site are sums of rows TDI publishes on the Texas Open Data Portal under House Bill 2067. We don't estimate, model or adjust them.

• Actions (data.texas.gov/d/m7yx-zxf2): declinations, nonrenewals and cancellations by ZIP, policy type and the month the action took effect. Currently April 2026 to June 2026. Last updated by TDI October 1, 2026.
• Reasons (data.texas.gov/d/3efz-d6qn): reasons cited in notices, by the month the notice was sent (December 2025 to June 2026), including whether aerial imagery or other third-party information was used. A notice can cite several reasons, so reason counts are not counts of policies. Last updated September 22, 2026.
• Active policies (data.texas.gov/d/vyxq-akit): active residential policies by ZIP as of December 31, 2025. "Per 1,000 policies" = nonrenewals over the period ÷ active policies × 1,000. Declined applicants aren't policyholders yet, so we don't compute a rate for them.
• Definitions (TDI): a declination means the company didn't approve the application; a nonrenewal means it didn't continue the policy after its end date; a cancellation means it stopped the policy before the end date (TDI).
• Policy types include owner-occupied homeowners, dwelling (rental), mobile homeowners, condo, tenants and stand-alone private flood.
• Places: each ZIP's county is the county holding most of its land area in the Census 2020 ZIP-to-county relationship file; the city label is the most common city name for that ZIP in the Texas Comptroller's sales-tax permit records. Both are approximate.
• Coverage: ZIP pages exist for 1,922 ZIP codes with at least 1 actions in the period or 50 active policies.
• Updates: TDI says it updates the data at least quarterly (TDI). We re-pull it after each update.
